WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO OBEDIENCE?

The English word OBEDIENCE is to be compliant with an order or a request.  To be submissive to another's authority.  To lack this as an Old Testament Jewish believer would be a very serious crime against God.  We see it in the story of King Saul in his failure to fully obey the Prophet Samuels words.

1 Samuel 15:22-23  And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

A lack of complete obedience by this great leader, called of God to lead Israel, caused him to be rejected from being king.  I wonder, what would it cost the New Testament Believer today?

WHERE IS OBEDIENCE TODAY?

I was once a young man, and know I am considered old, the biggest change I have seen in peoples actions and attitude is the lack of obedience. This is true in national politics, education, entertainment and the church world.  I see people going from church to church, camp meeting to camp meeting, and viewing on the internet everything and anything, and never satisfied with what God has actually provided for them. It seems to me, this stems from a total lack of OBEDIENCE.  It is an attitude that "I can do what I want to do" and still be accepted by God.

Authority is rejected today, and therefore it makes it easy to reject the authority of God's Word.  It has affected the young, the old and everything in-between. However, even Jesus Christ had to learn obedience and by it was made perfect; Hebrews 5:8-9  "Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect..."

It was by disobedience in one man we were made sinners and by Christ obedience we were saved from sin (Romans 5:19).

OBEDIENCE RULES TODAY

When authority is destroyed and the obedience to it, then sin will rule in this world and in the lives of those that reject obedience. As a New Testament Believer, the greatest authority before is in God's Word and just to partially obey is not good enough and will end in complete rejection as it did in the Old Testament with King Saul. The lack of this is still sin, and it manifest a person's rebellion, stubbornness and shows their willingness to follow anything that pleases the flesh which is idolatry.

Abraham by faith obeyed the Word of God that told him to take his son on the mountain and offer him as a sacrifice, he obeyed and God provided a ram in his place. This obedience also gave Abraham one of his greatest revelation, of Jehovah-jireh.  What will our obedience do for us, no matter how hard it may seem to obey. That is when we possessed the gates of our enemy as it was with faithful Abraham's obedience.

Look at the following quote about the Prophets of old and their obedience to the call of God.

64-1227  WHO.DO.YOU.SAY.THIS.IS_  PHOENIX.AZ

...Those prophets had such things to do till they...It was a hard thing to do. They didn't want to be going out, and be scorned at. They wanted to have fellowship and go in with the rest of them and go along with brothers. But you see, just like... I believe... I forget what prophet it was, said, "If... I don't want to do this," (in other words) "but my whole heart will catch afire. God has spoken and I must deliver It." Whether they liked It; whether they crucified him; whether they stoned him; whatever they did... God has spoke in his heart, and he must say It. Not to be different, but be obedient. "Obedience is better than sacrifice; hearkening, unto the fats of rams." See, It was in his heart. He must do it. It was his Life. He couldn't hold It. There was something, a pulsation, that pushed them. They couldn't bless It or curse It. God had so much complete control of them till He was their voice, their action. Hallelujah!

Give me a Church that's so completely anointed with God till their every action and move is THUS SAITH THE LORD, walk in that Shekinah Glory, I'll show you a Messiah (anointed one of God) standing upon the earth. - WMB
