It has been said, “if something doesn’t have emotions, you better bury it because it is dead!” That is very true when it comes to humanity. But what about GOD?
Emotions are fragile and changeable in the best of us, even Elijah the mighty prophet of the LORD, was emotionally jubilant on Mount Carmal, but a few hours later, because of the words of a woman spoken against him a great change occurred in his emotions. We find him sad, feeling all alone, depressed and even suicidal.
EMOTIONS ARE HUMAN
Emotions are of our human animal nature. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, we are all “bi-polar” to some degree. God is not at all emotional, nor does our emotions move us to a higher realm spiritually. Yes, the Bible speaks of God’s compassion, love and His anger. This was written by God in a language “humans” can understand. God can love, He is also Jealous and can be angry - this is not an emotion, it is who He is and how He acts judicially.
Our emotions are changeable, but God always remains the same, or He is not God. When God speaks of being angry, or joyful, He is not changing because of certain circumstances, but it is His judicial acts of what He is and does. He does not change with feelings as we do but remains the same.
WE HAVE BEEN TAUGHT THE CORRECT APPROACH TO GOD
Could that be why we have been taught that the proper way to approach God is to come to Him “sanely, sensible and reverently” with our heart and mind on His Word. Yes, if you don’t have emotions, you are dead, that is human, God was human in Jesus Christ and in that form, He even overcame human emotions when tempted by satan (Matthew 4).
Therefore, we serve a great God that can be touched by our feelings as we come to Him NOT in an uncontrollable, unconscious state, but with a mind, and a heart that draws near to HIM who understands without being changed by our emotions (Hebrews 4:15). Seems like a paradox, but true.
In the sermon “The Uncertain Sound” the prophet to this generation said it many times in this manner; “But let us remember our Creator now while we have our right mind and can come sanely and sensibly to the altar and receive Christ as our Saviour. - Rev. William Marrion Branham
