PASTORAL THOUGHTS - ONE SHEPHERD

PASTORAL THOUGHTS - Pastor Bill Ivy

Jer 12:10 Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

What does that mean?

Pastors in the Old Testament were the leaders of the people. Here it could refer to an enemy to Israel as was Nebuchadnezzar that devoured the land or a king of their own. Leaders, shepherds that feed themselves and not the sheep.

To feed the flock is to care for the flock in every way, feeding and caring for their every need. Watching them, being a part of them, by being with them, protecting and leading them carefully and faithfully.

The Christian church has a Shepherd, which perfectly fulfills the needs of His sheep and lambs.

ONE SHEPHERD

Ps 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

As a pastor to a local church, may my heart be filled with the life of the Good Shepherd to follow His example.

Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
